Favorite Kitchen Tips

Happy New Year to everyone.  I thought I would have a post where I summarized my favorite kitchen tips that I’ve posted throughout the past year.  I’ve really enjoyed the many comments and suggestions that I’ve received by email and look forward to creating more posts and tips for the next year.  Here are some of the trends that I’ve incorporated and worked on:

I’m loving the shifts to a more simplistic, free- handed manner in the kitchen– I outlined the simplification steps in my modern frugal kitchen, and mnmlst kitchen.

I love wasting less– one big step that I’ve made this past year has been to learn to repurpose leftovers and waste less food.  I outline some steps to be creative with leftovers (part 1, part 2 and part 3) and creative with holiday leftovers.

I’ve loved learning about green alternatives — especially for cleaning the kitchen, and incorporating fewer toxic chemicals in our household.

I’m making fewer shopping trips — One big step to making fewer trips has been to be creative about substitutes when I’m out of one ingredient and also to have a handful of emergency pantry meal ideas on hand.

Favorite recipes — of all of the recipes that I’ve tried, or reworked in the past year, if I’m forced to pick three would be: peach and tomato salad, apple ginger coleslaw and speedy red beans and rice.

I’d love to hear suggestions or types of recipes you’d like to see next year.

Learning how to not waste food we have already purchased is a big one for me that I need to focus on more. We could all save so much money this way if we just used what we purchased — all of it.

Julie, thanks

Courtney, the emergency meal planning (and a well stocked pantry) has saved me many headaches in the past year.

Taylor, I’m still learning. What I’m surprised about, is how much fun it is.

Thanks for the comments.
