Top Green Ideas of 2009

Summary of Top Green and Frugal Posts

As 2010 approaches (as well as the first anniversary of this blog), I thought that I would recap some of the top green hints and posts of the past year.  I have really enjoyed learning more about how to live in a more environmentally sustainable fashion, to waste less, reuse more, and generally rethink how to do things in a planet friendly manner.  What has been surprising to me (in a good way) are two things: 1) how much there is to learn about green practices, it seems like there is always more to read, or another website to browse; and 2) how green practices are often money saving or health improving as well.  Here are some of my favorites:

The initial posts on green and frugal practices, part one and part two — these were posts originally created for Earth day that outline some of the practices that I now incorporate everyday.  I love getting less junk mail, and now the canvass bags are old habits.

Green and frugal cleaners — it seems a lot of people are interested in finding more natural ways to clean their home and to avoid harsh chemicals.  This post had a lot of great ideas from readers, and this was one of the top trafficked posts.

Energy saving tips — one of the best ways to put less carbon in the atmosphere is to use less energy.  In winter, good insulation is key to efficient heating of the home.

Almost meatless meals — One of the surprises for me was the observation that eating less meat was better for the environment than eating locally.  I plan to try even more vegetarian and low meat meals next year.

I look forward to suggestions for future green posts!

This is a great summary! I have many green articles on my site, and I know I’ve commented here before, but I don’t think I’ve pointed you to my article “7 Ways to Eat Less Meat”–click on my name. I don’t think of it as a choice between eating less meat OR eating locally (or eating organic food or less-packaged food or any of the other diet-greening strategies) but try to do all of those things a little more each year.
