Dark Chocolate Fondue

Generally speaking, I like to serve fruit for dessert. Fresh fruit in season is one of the best treats and is also good for you.  This time of year, I also like to serve friends and family something special, so I’ll break out the desserts and of course my favorite is dark chocolate.  A chocolate fondue party is a lot of fun.  Invite friends over and set out a platter of fresh fruit and wooden skewers or fondue forks for dipping.  I like to use different colored fruits such as strawberries, pineapple, banana sections and apple slices.  You can also slice pound cake into cubes for dipping or serve dried apricots or crystallized ginger.  Or, to be completely over the top, serve with cubes of brownies that you’ve baked.

Dark Chocolate Fondue

1 bar (3 1/2 oz.) good quality dark chocolate (over 70% cocoa)
2 T heavy cream
1 t liqueur (optional, can use kahlua, orange liqueur or hazlenut)

In a glass bowl, break the chocolate into pieces and add the cream.  Microwave at 20 second intervals on high until chocolate is mostly melted, stirring at each interval.  This will take about 2 minutes.  Stir until all lumps are gone and add liqueur, and mix thoroughly.  Serve in small ramekins and let each person skewer their own fruit and dip it into the chocolate.
