Feed Your Mind: Modern Gal’s Recommended Readings
January is an interesting month. With the changeover in calendar, it’s a time of renewal, a time when most people make resolutions looking forward toward the future. At the same time, January is usually the middle of winter, when days are short and most people leave home before the sun rises and may be huddled inside due to the snow and ice.
For both circumstances, I look for inspirational reading. By insprirational, I don’t mean grocery-style checklist of things to do to improve motivation, I mean, grip you by the throat, grab a tissue, OMG inspirational. I recommend the following:
Last Lecture by Randy Pausch — probably the most watched college lecture of all time. Deservedly so. Sadly, I did not get to read this until Randy Pausch had passed away, although the message is still as powerful.
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert — Yeah, I know, every reading club this side of the Atlantic has already reviewed this, but I really enjoyed it. I particularly like Elizabeth’s notion of the “physics of the quest.” I believe it’s true.
And some inspiring blog posts:
from Zen Habits‘ Leo Babatua — Find out the single secret for 2009. I find many of Leo’s posts helpful, this one is memorable.
Gluten Free Girl (Shauna James Ahern) — Yes. This is a classic among blog posts. It makes most sense if you follow Shauna’s blog regularly, and her cheerful outlook is uplifing.
What about you, what are you reading?

I hated finishing Eat, Pray, Love–I never wanted it to be over I loved it so much. I haven’t since read a book that I enjoyed as much as that one.
Syd, one time I was on a plane in the dreaded middle seat. The woman in the aisle seat was reading EPL, and the woman to my left got it out of her bag. I started laughing when I retrieved my copy.
